Network + Connect Mentorship (N + C)

LEARN HOW TO NETWORK WITH YOUR INDUSTRY AND CONNECT WITH PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD

Networking is important for your career. However, it’s not who or how many people you have in your network that makes the biggest impact in your career development, it’s the meaningful career conversations you have with your connections.

Students who participate in N+C will:

  • Have a better understand of the value of mentorship and how talking with a mentor can help you reach your career goals
  • Set mentorship goals and prepare to contact industry professionals
  • Expand your network by learning how to approach industry professionals and initiating career conversations

Network + Connect Mentorship is open to all students at Fanshawe. To get involved:

  • Complete the N+C registration form and receive a welcome email and N+C workbook
  •  Meet with a Mentorship Consultant to set or clarify your goals and review the workbook (this step is optional, but strongly recommended)
  • Attend mentorship workshops and events (or view recordings) to support your progress
  • Engage in meaningful relationship building and networking experiences with as many mentors as you deem necessary to achieve your goals
  • Track mentorship hours and submit the N+C workbook to the InSPIRE Mentoring Team at [email protected] for Co-Curricular Record recognition

Experiences may include informational interviews, video chats, email conversations, industry or networking events, short job shadows (virtual or in person) or other opportunities that help you to achieve your goals.

All N+C mentees will receive monthly check-in emails about the progress of your goals and to provide information about upcoming events. You are also welcome to meet with a Mentorship Consultant at any time.

Hear from a Mentee

In 2023 I made the decision to change my career path and returned to Fanshawe for the Project Management post-graduate program.

As a Fanshawe Alumni, I was familiar with Career Services and the support they offered to students. The Career Services team was responsive and informative. They walked me through the mentoring program and conducted an assessment to ensure my mentorship experience aligned with my career aspirations.

My mentor provided me with real-world insights and prospective into my future career. She understood the challenges of changing career paths and guided me through interview preparation. Participating in the mentoring program was one of the best decisions I made.
